Pringle shaped churches ...

I've been over to see Jess and Matt tonight who marry in August to chat about their final plans for their special day. I'm still chuckling about some of the things. When we first met I'd made a brief note that said 'Pringle shaped' when we chatted tonight I remembered that shape refereed to the church! I'm obviously very intrigued about that one. With only a couple of months to go their in the full swing of the final preparations, they also showed me their rings which are fantastic to match a fab couple. See you very soon!!

While I'm blogging here's a couple of my fav images from Cumbria last week. The first of our friend Chloe and daughter Matilda, wizzing passed on their bicycle. Chloe had gone to fetch something from the car and returned on the bike with little Matilda holding on tight at the back! The second an image that Neil took whilst we were on the back of a boat on Ullswater, It was nice and sunny that day and the calm of the water coming from underneath the boat was idyllic. Oh and finally, check out my new back pack, little Eddie has found a better alternative to his buggy.

City shoot with Sherrelle ...

I posted a little while back some images from the shoot with Neil and Wayne with the beautiful Sherrelle. It was on a scorching day, but they had loads of fun and I'm sad I missed out! They returned to the spot where Emma had taken us previously on a recent shoot, so they could track down some more great shooting sites there. Here's some of Neil's images from the morning!

A special time to remember

Today I was so happy to be capturing a special time for Cerys who had her first Holy Communion today. It was made ever more special in that Cerys had asked for her day to be documented and wanted a memory book of the images from her special day that she'll be able to cherish though life.

I'm not a hoarder myself, probably more to do with the fact that there's no space to be with children and their toys, but I keep things that mean a lot to me. Baby's first sleep suit, hair cutting and toy. So it's a great companion to any memory box to have a book of images from a special occasion in life.

Urban Lifestyle in Nottingham City

Living the Lifestyle ..

Lots of lifestyle shoots this week what with the half term holidays and finally we've seen some SUNSHINE!!! I just love it, love it, love it! It looks like there's more to come too this weekend, which is fantastic as we're at Belvoir Castle on Saturday.

This week has included a large family shoot in Newark, which was such fun and with very nice families and fantastic children! A shoot with a local police superintendent, and the amazing Sweetin family.

In the City with Emma

Neil and I spent some time this morning with Emma around Nottingham city centre. We timed the shoot really well to fit around the heavy rain showers, starting in the hub of the city and then were undercover when the rain came down in the 'Park Tunnel'.

We had a great time with Emma and without Neil & I realising we had started the shoot just outside Emma's college. So the portfolio of these images should create a great memory of her college days!

What a great week we've had, I can't believe it's nearly Sunday again. It's been a busy mix of business and family times, as we started the week with our daughters birthday (the finale of her party is tomorrow). On Tuesday we had a tour of the beautiful Belvoir Castle which is our next wedding venue and it was stunning, so we look forward to our next visit there! I also met with Helen and Mark who have booked us to photograph their wedding this August and chatting to a few families who have enquired about Summer Lifestyle shoots.

What makes us smile ...

We love creating memories for our clients, in fact client seems a strange word to describe the people we meet and photograph. I'd like to think they'd be happy to be known as a friend, as the time we spend together includes lots of laughter, often emotion and relaxed chit chat. So what makes us smile (and sometimes produce a little tear of happiness!) is to receive and see wonderful comments that our 'friends' say about us, Butterworth Photography.

We've had a fabulous day which all began when we met up with Jessica and Matt for their pre-wedding shoot at the gorgeous Hardwick Hall. We first met Jess and Matt at the Newstead Abbey wedding fair last October, their an amazing couple and we had some great fun, with the weather staying nice for us too!

See you both in August for your special day - we're excited already!

This morning I was in great company with Lisa, Archie and their son Seth for their pre-wedding shoot at Elvaston Castle, Derbyshire. It gave us the opportunity to catch up on their wedding day plans for June at Donnington Manor. They're a fabulous family and I still can hear little Seth's amazing chuckle if I close my eyes, it's one of those noises you'd want to try and bottle and keep - and open to make you smile!

Yesterday we photographed the beautiful wedding of Pete and Abbey at Holme Pierrepont Hall. It was a fabulous day and they both looked stunning, it was a great pleasure for us to be a part of it.

I really enjoyed the family spirit of the whole event, the ceremony included readings and music from members of Abby and Pete's friends and family, and the speeches were also about special family moments - rather than the groom's past mishap stories!

A big thank you to Tillyboo event organisers who's staff were fab and created a beautiful setting for the guests during the reception. The food was superb and I heard so many comments about the soup being especially delicious!!

Pete and Abby we wish you all the happiness together, and look forward to meeting up again soon.

Easter Bunny ...

I was on the Easter bunny run this week, which included a trip to see our nieces and nephew over in Leicester. The weather was fine for a while so they managed to get outside on the swings. Dancing in the Moonlight ...

It's been a fun and busy week, feels like a long time since I posted on the blog but it was only Sunday. I think it's because our daughter is on holiday from school, we're trying to cram as much time with her and our son as we can ... and the enormous inflatable dinosaurs that now reside in our lounge.

Neil and I had a great evening on Monday in Nottingham City Centre with James and Lisa. We had a lifestyle shoot with them a while ago and I had mentioned that I was interested in photographing something similar, but using the lights of the city, they were keen to help and we had a blast. Here's an image next to the Nottingham Wheel (as we must call it now!)I'll pop some more images on at the weekend.

We were at Newstead Abbey wedding fair today in Nottinghamshire. We love being at Newstead, the staff are great and what a special place to be - especially when the sun shines.

This morning we spent a couple of hours with Nick creating a mini portfolio for him. We had a great time, although it was bitterly cold with a heavy wind and constant rain. We found cover and managed to fit lots in to our shoot. Great work Nick, we hope to work with you again in the future!

What a fantastic day for a pre-wedding shoot! Suzanne and Stewart came over from Northants today in preparation for their wedding day in August. It sounds a fantastic day that they have planned with a real aviation theme which we are very excited about. We drove over to Wollaton Hall, Gardens & Deer Park it seemed the great weather had brought a lot of Nottingham visitors out to enjoy the sun too, but we were able to find a few quiet spots.

River Trent ...

Last weekend we met with one of our fantastic couples who are to marry this May for their pre-wed shoot. It started off with extremely heavy rain, so we began the shoot in some farm out buildings. We joked that the skies could just maybe clear for us to see through the great white haze and cloud that the rain had brought with it, and then as if by magic the heavy rain lifted the clouds shifted and I got to see the river Trent in all its beauty ....

Monday catch up ...

Today we were both at the Focus on Imaging trade show in Birmingham. Whilst we were there we attended some seminars held by David Oliver, he's one of only five people in the world to be awarded a grand master of photography. I always think it's great to listen to other photographers and I was more intrigued about his transition after so many years working with film to his recent move to digital.

We've seen some nice new frames as well, so we'll be adding some of those to our signature product collection soon too.

I'm out and about meeting some bride and grooms to be this week during wedding consultations and then on Sunday it's our wedding fair at Alfreton Hall Derbyshire. Have a good week and I'll catch up again soon!

A Winter Wedding at Newstead Abbey

We enjoyed photographing the wedding today of Carol and Alan at the beautiful Newstead Abbey. It was a very special ceremony with lots of heart felt readings. I always think the staff at the Abbey are incredibly friendly and helpful and this combined with the splendour of Newstead creates a perfect place to marry.

The funny thing is Barak Obama is following us too!!

Half Term update

Its been a very busy week for us over half term and next week looks even more so. We've been doing some event photography this week at the Village Hotel and tomorrow we're off to photograph the wedding of Carol and Alan which we're really looking forward to. The children have been off from school too, so we managed to get some nice time with them. Hurray also that the Spring sunshine is starting to emerge - doesn't it put a spring in your step!

I'll post some pictures from the week after they've been through our usual umpteen back up processes and data tagging (I'm glad Neil got that task in our business plan - you're doing a great job hun!).

Pre-wedding shoot at Holme Pierrepont Hall

We both joined Abby and Pete on Saturday to view their beautiful venue and take a few images before their upcoming wedding day.

Holme Pierrepont Hall is a beautiful venue in Nottinghamshire and we were all made very welcome whilst we were visiting. We were delighted by the outside of the Hall as we turned into the drive and with the grounds, period rooms and staircase we were like children in a sweet shop looking at possible places to take photographs!!

Abby and Pete are a pleasure to be with and we're really excited to photographing them on their wedding day very soon!

Treetops Hospice Ripple Appeal

I was very delighted to photograph Dawn-Elizabeth Rudd being welcomed as the new vice president of the Treetops Hospice Ripple Appeal this week at Melbourne Hall. With Dawn-Elizabeth was Lord Ralph Kerr the owner of the beautiful Melbourne Hall and president of the appeal, and Ripple Appeal Manager Kate Shaw.

Melbourne Hall and it's grounds are fabulous and even on a very cold winter's day the gardens were stunning. I was made extremely welcome, and excitedly greeted by all the family dogs as I came in from the cold!. The gardens are open for the public to view in the Spring, so we'll definitely be visiting again as a family to explore some more when it's in bloom!

The Treetops Hospice Ripple Appeal is doing a fantastic job and it's with the support and dedication of such a fantastic team that it's hopeful the target of raising £2.5m will be achieved in the near future.

Firstly my good friend Jenny who so very kindly let us shoot in her lovely apartment building in Nottingham city centre, such a beautiful place and we were extremely happy to be there. Our thanks to Emma our stunning model who managed to brave some cold temperatures whilst looking lovely. And also thanks to Treetops Hospice for letting us use the gorgeous wedding dress (which can be purchased at the Treetops Hospice wedding dress sale on Sunday 22 February ).

Busy Christmas Week ..

We hope you've had a fantastic Christmas week and managing now to move after the turkey! We had a busy week with delivering Christmas images/albums to customers and meeting brides/grooms wishing to book their wedding photography with us for next year.

We made time to have lots of fun with our two little ones, actually lots of time with the 5am start on Christmas Day! Christmas Eve as always we visited Twycross Zoo (so much more fun than last minute shopping). Then on Boxing Day we went back to Sherwood Forest by popular demand of our daughter. Today we had a great morning with Katie who's studying at Nottingham University. She also models along with her studies and amazingly speaks seven different languages! The campus was quiet for the Christmas holidays but the rain did'nt want to hold off. Not put off by this we armed ourselves with brollies and had some fun!

A Mother's Love .....

I spent a lovely morning this week with the 'Hendy Family'. As I walked into their lounge and saw their contented new addition to the family looking up at me from his baby rocker, I knew it was going to be great shoot. At only 3 weeks old the little man behaved fantastically and was a true star for the camera.

One of my favourite images from the shoot is this one, it's because as a mother myself it trigger's the deep thought's of love, protection and total devotion. Thanks again for a great morning!

Training and Grendon Hall

On Saturday Rebecca was at Grendon Hall in Northamptonshire providing a workshop for a group of gifted & talented 12-16 year old students on the use of artificial light to compliment their portrait photography.

We had fun using equipment in a studio based environment and then used the backdrop of the beautiful hall and it's wonderful grounds. I had a brilliant time and it was fantastic to see the children sample with lighting and see how it impacted upon their images. There were certainly some potentially great photographers among them and a few who enjoyed the modelling too!

Fantastic news, we win GOLD!

This week we have found out that two of Rebecca's images have been awarded Gold by the Society of Wedding and Portrait Photographers (SWPP). This is wonderful news that our work has been recognised by the professional bodies and is a just another boost for us to continue to take fantastic images. All the Gold award winners now go forward to be judged in London at the end of January for the International Photograph of the Year Awards.

The close of Autumn

Autumn has to be my favourite season, not only the colours but the sense of euphoria as you walk through the fallen leaves and then return home for a cosy coffee with a beautiful glow to your face. Enjoying a cold, windy, winter day

Last Sunday was a bitterly cold and windy day. It started with snow and then some rainy drizzle but the weather man was spot on and I managed to time my lifestyle session well with James, his parents and his two adorable little boys.

All wrapped up we headed to Wollaton Park and the boys enjoyed a game of football, feeding the ducks and some games in the lovely gardens. I certainly came away having had fun and with a fantastic glow to my cheeks - the essentials to a good Sunday I believe.

That was the last few weeks passing us by, it's been really busy for us and looks like the next few weeks up until Christmas are going to be quick ones too! Our diary is busy with various activities, including wedding consultations, photo shoots for Christmas pressies and of course the joy of our own little ones Christmas activities.

On Monday 17th November I photographed the Black Mathematics and Scientists Young Black Achiever's Awards 2008 at the Nottingham Playhouse. Yes, the cast of Macbeth had the evening off whilst a team from the Nottingham City Council Children's Services department played host to this brilliant event. 15 young students received prizes during an awards ceremony for their outstanding achievements this year. There was also some very inspirational words from their guests speakers on how as parents we can encourage, support and help develop our children as they grow. It was a pleasure to record.

One of my favourite images from the evening was from the live performance of Seckou and Family, whose passion for their music was very evident in their performance.

Supporting the Treetops Hospice Ripple Appeal at Christmas

On Wednesday I visited Kate and Lily at Treetops Hospice in Risley Derbyshire, to capture some images for their Christmas appeal. The images will be featured in the local media to support their fund raising tips which include:

Be environmental friendly, instead of sending Christmas cards at work, ask all your colleagues to make a donation to the Ripple Appeal.

Sing your heart out carol singing.

.. and have a tipple for the Ripple! Hold a dinner or drinks party and ask your guests to bring along a donation.

The work at the hospice and in the community provides fantastic care to those in Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire. As demand for the service has doubled in the last four years the Treetops Hospice Ripple Appeal has been created to raise funding to build a new care centre.

Model portfolio shoot with Elena

This morning we spent some delightful hours with Elena around Nottingham City Centre. Elena is developing her model portfolio and we were fortunate enough to work with her. The weather stayed dry but a little cool however there was some gentle walking between locations to keep us warm (uphill mainly!). Celebrating A Ruby Wedding Anniversary

Last Sunday I enjoyed spending the morning photographing the special celebration of Michael and Julia's Ruby Wedding Anniversary. Congratulations to you both and what a beautiful morning it was as the Autumn sun came out for the occasion.

The day brought the families together at Michael and Julia's home in Nottinghamshire. The morning was relaxed in the garden and included a mini dance routine from Martha!

I hope you enjoyed the rest of the day, also we'd like to wish Martha a very happy 7th birthday for this week!

Treetops Nursery - Children in Need Fund Raising

On Wednesday I supported Treetops Nursery in Chilwell by taking photographs for a 2009 calender they are creating to raise money for this year's Children in Need appeal. I've supported the charity some years back by volunteering in the call centre taking money pledges over the phone. This was by far more energetic and rewarding!

The children from the nursery dressed to compliment the theme of each month and most of all there was lots of smiles and fun. My particular favourite was Autumn and Halloween! We also had some star performers for July in the Independence Day theme.

Thank you to the children for all being creative and amazing models to work with!

The idea for the calender was from Angela and Becki at the nursery who put in a lot of time and effort creating fun backgrounds - your efforts paid off and so did your superb organisation of the morning! The calender will go on sale in November to friends and family of the children that attend Treetops in Chilwell, Nottingham.

Newstead Abbey Wedding Fair

We've had a fantastic time exhibiting today at the Newstead Abbey wedding fair. A big thank you to all the staff who played a part in organising the event and those who supported it today. We found everybody to be incredibly helpful and friendly and we certainly recommend the Abbey as a venue for your wedding ceremony.

Goose Fair, Nottingham

One of Europe's most famous fun fairs has been in town this week and as part of a media project I went along last night to capture some of it's delights. I must admit I was about 15 years old when I last went along but so glad I did. As a photographer there were endless things to catch my eye and it was great to catch the contrast of light as the sun went down. Just a shame our daughter's recovering from a cold or we'll have ventured along again tonight!

What a fantastic job we had yesterday meeting future brides and grooms who visited us at the Nottingham Gateway wedding fair. We had a brilliant time hearing everyone's plans and sensing the buzz of the preparations. Treetops Hospice, Risley, Derbyshire

This week we've registered as volunteer's at the Treetops Hospice in Risley, Derbyshire. Wanting to support the community and the amazing work that they do we have offered our support as photographer's to assist them in the huge amount of fund raising that they do.

Treetops Hospice is a registered charity providing daycare and home care for people with life-limiting illnesses for whom continuing care is needed.

I went to visit the centre in the week and I was truly overwhelmed at how many volunteers commit so much time and energy to support the hospice and the community. Their support along with the dedicated staff at the hospice make a massive positive impact on so many people.

The 'Ripple Appeal' has been started to help raise cash for a new care centre to help cope with the demand for the services of the hospice. To find out more or even better make a donation please view their website, Treetops

The Beautiful Toula

I was lucky to share some time with baby Toula and her family, Michelle and Tim recently in Derbyshire. I was there to capture those early months which fly by so quickly - even when these babies do tend to keep us on our toes 24/7!

Treetops Hospice Dog Show, 6 July 2008

On Sunday our family went along to the Treetops Hospice fun dog show. We've recently volunteered ourselves as photographers to support the hospice work so we look forward for more fun events! It was a stroke of luck that the rain stopped just from the start to the minute we finished. Thanks to everyone who volunteered and supported the event, to the Trent FM Thunder Crew and of course the stars themselves - the dogs! Derwent Valley Dog Club also treated us to their first display in front of an audience - well done team.

Shoot with Natalie in Hull

I mentioned last week that we both had a fantastic day in Hull taking images of the fantastic model Natalie. We had such a blast that we're hoping to possibly work with Natalie again some time soon in the urban areas of Nottingham. If you should ever be up near Hull we would really recommend a trip to The Deep, It's a fantastic centre even if you don't have children with you. The lift at the end which moves down through the large tank is fab!

Wow what a week .....

It's been an amazing 7 days and we've spent time with some amazing people too! On Sunday Rebecca met up with a fantastic local young lady, we had some fun in the inner city of Nottingham against a community wall art project and then just ten minutes from there in a jaw dropping field of poppies.

On Monday Rebecca was lucky enough to spend the day at the Jerry Ghionis seminar in Luton. Jerry is known around the world for his spectacular wedding photography and he certainly is an inspirational guy. He shared many of his techniques to capture those REALLY special wedding day moments, so watch this space!!

Then to end the week we spent the afternoon in the hub of Hull city, in and around 'The Deep'. Working alongside us was another photographer who is a great inspiration and friend John Denton and his lovely wife Liz. Images will come shortly of the beautiful Natalie.

Neil and I attended some fantastic lighting training last week in Skiption Yorkshire with the very inspiring John Denton and Larry MacMahon. From this I have developed Euphoric Images as part of Butterworth Photography.

My intentions of Euphopric images is to capture the well being of women, taking photographs for clients who may want a special gift for a partner or simply to celebrate their femininity.

We spent a great few hours at Newstead Abbey today as a family, enjoying the first day of some nice British weather. The last image is taken behind a small waterfall which children find so exciting and the small tunnels leading to beautiful walled gardens provide an excellent background for some fabulous pictures.
